Most delays in buying fasteners do not come from manufacturing — they come from the back-and-forth before the quote. A missing grade or an unstated finish turns a one-day reply into a week of emails. Use this checklist and your first enquiry has everything a manufacturer needs.
The nine details
- Drawing or standard. The RDSO drawing number and alteration, the Indian Standard, or your own drawing.
- Size. Diameter and length, for example M24 × 150.
- Thread. Thread length, or full thread; pitch if it is not standard coarse.
- Grade. The property class or material grade.
- Finish. Plain, oiled or a named coating.
- Nuts and washers. How many with each bolt.
- Quantity. Per item, and whether delivery can be staggered.
- Inspection. Any inspection agency, test or certificate your order requires.
- Delivery. Site location and the date you need it.
When you only have a sample
If a bolt has to be replaced and there is no drawing, a sample helps. Send the sample with what you know: where it is used, the load it carries, and the grade marking on the head. For non-standard parts, see specialised bolts made to drawing.
One enquiry, several items
Railway and plant jobs usually need several fasteners at once — fish bolts with track bolts and plate screws, or hex bolts with foundation bolts. List them in one enquiry; each line is quoted on its own, and the delivery can be planned together.
